1. Try the 3/4 -length

We’re not just talking about sleeves. Pants and skirts are also appearing in this length. White cotton shirt with 3/4 sleeves has a touch of spandex, Velcro closures, $58. Cotton capri pant, $50. Both from Casual Connection at Eaton’s.

2. Accent with colour

With the main colours for spring decidedly neutral, now is the time to be bold with accessories. Try these blue slides from Hush Puppies, $100, at Eaton’s. Bracelets are the accessory of choice for 3/4-length sleeves. This red beaded “slinky” style is $12 at Eaton’s.

3. Keep it simple

This season, there’s little ornamentation, unless it serves a purpose. Right, The Work cardigan, $80, has two-button closure. It tops a matching shell, $55.

Left, from Casual Connection, silk pants, $84, have drawstring waist, cargo pockets; cotton stretch sweater has 3/4-length sleeves, $55. All from Eaton’s.

4. Rethink the suit

Jackets have more relaxed shirt-style tailoring. And cropped pants often replace the skirt. Right, jacket, $129. Matching pants, $85. Worn with a microfibre sleeveless top, $49. All from Club Monaco.

5. Look for stretch

Spandex is turning up in the unlikeliest places. The grey suit, left, from Club Monaco is a poly/wool/spandex blend. It doesn’t mean the clothes are skintight, it just gives a new ease of movement to tailored clothes.
